SLOVAK CHAPTER - 05/25/2023

Susan Lawrence, USA (Ret.), president and CEO of AFCEA International, for the commemoration of the chapter's anniversary in May. The chapter's gala evening took place in May in the Palffy Manor House in Svaty Jur. Among the guests were officials of AFCEA International and Europe, the representatives of the military resort, the academic sphere, the information technology sector, and members and friends. Altogether, nearly 70 guests attended. The gathering highlighted the presence of the Slovakian News TV Channel TA3.

This evening was opened by Col. Miroslav Brvnistan (Ret.), chapter president, who thanked AFCEA International Tina Jordan, vice president of membership, AFCEA International; AFCEA Regional Vice President Petr Jirasek; General Manager of AFCEA Europe Maj. Gen. Erich Staudacher, GEAF (Ret.); and Maj. Gen. Klaus-Peter Treche, GEAF (Ret.). Col. SLOVAK CHAPTER - 03/22/2023
Miroslav Brvnistan, chapter president, delivers the opening speech at the March event. He is joined by chancellor of the Comenius University, Marek Stevcek, and Lubos Krpelan, executive manager, Microsoft Slovakia. Cybersecurity-level assessment, trends in cyber crime, detection of security incidents and methods of protection of information systems were addressed during an event intended for employees of the public sphere, which was organized in March by the chapter, Comenius University in Bratislava and Microsoft Slovakia. "The public sector in Slovakia faces current information threats and is becoming a target for attackers in cyberspace," said Marek Stevcek, chancellor of Slovakia's largest university, praising the platform that brought together the private and public sectors on campus to map current cybersecurity topics with an aspect to public administration and practical recommendations.

Recognized experts in this field in Slovakia and the Czech Republic gave speeches assessing the current situation and identifying sufficient education and lack of information technology (IT) staff as key problems in the public sphere. SLOVAK CHAPTER - 01/12/2019
The areas of information technologies and the security of the cyber environment are challenging activities for security forces. The memorandum of cooperation between the chapter and the Academy of the Police Corps was signed in January and aims to support the education and transfer of practical knowledge to the security forces environment. The main goal is to create a platform for linking public, academic and private sector entities; generating conditions to support the development of professional training, access to the newest information on technical and technological progress through the distribution of professional press, organizing seminars, conferences and lectures; and supporting scientific projects as well as practical courses. The chapter's international background and activities make it possible to participate in a variety of events and engage in educational activities, projects, exhibitions, seminars and support for skilled students in study, education and publishing.

SLOVAK CHAPTER - 05/15/2014
Ladislav Kollarik, chapter vice president (l) and Paul A. Schneider, former deputy secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, speak during the Defence Fair-IDEB 2014 in May. In May, more than 90 cyber experts discussed cyber and security topics during Defence Fair-IDEB 2014 organized in Bratislava, Slovakia. The seminar focused on two main topics: cyber policy, strategies and international cooperation. It brought attention to important security topics and helped maintain networking between cyber experts on the national and international level. The seminar was opened with a speech from Paul A. Schneider, former deputy secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He focused on the vision for cyber, future challenges and international cooperation. A session on cyber policy and international cooperation was opened by Chris Stace, senior project manager, European Defence Agency, who provided an overview of European cyberdefense strategy. A panel discussion on international cooperation with Dr. Radim Polcak, Masaryk University of Brno, and Dr. Miroslav Brvnistan, National Security Authority, Slovakia, followed. SLOVAK CHAPTER - 10/11/2013
In October, attendees gather in the auditorium during the main ceremony celebrating 40 years of higher military education in the Liptov region. The 40th anniversary of higher military education in the Liptov region culminated on a festive day in October at the Armed Forces Academy of General Milan Rastislav Štefánik in Liptovský Mikuláš. The event included a display of flags—state, battle and academic—along with a fly over of the L-39 Albatros aircraft, a ceremonial march of troops, the gathering of guests and the university staff, and speeches. Miloš Koterec, state secretary at the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic, took part in the celebrations. He stated that higher military education in the Liptov region has gone through several stages of development since its beginning, and he added that the current academy in Liptovský Mikuláš contributes substantially toward the quality of the Slovak military. Attendees fill the auditorium for the 7th International Scientific Conference Communication and Information Technologies - KIT 2013 in October. The Department of Informatics of the Armed Forces Academy and the chapter organized the 7th International Scientific Conference Communication and Information Technologies - KIT 2013 in Tatranske Zruby, Slovakia, in October. The conference is held biennially and brings forth the most topical scientific findings. Approximately 130 experts from the Czech Republic, Poland, Rumania, Germany, Greece and Slovakia took part in this year's event. During the conference presentation blocks, 40 scientific and professional papers were read, focusing on communication technologies and systems, information systems, computer networks, signal processing, information processing, information and communication technologies in the armed forces, cybersecurity and network operations.
